Virtual Music at the Piano Year 2 (7-8 Year Olds)
Age: 7-8 years of age (successful completion of Music at the Piano Year 1 is required to enter this level)
Class Length: 1 hour, once a week LIVE on Zoom
Duration: 15 weeks

Description: Music at the Piano is a unique method for young beginners in a group setting. This aural approach serves as the foundation for musical literacy as it provide a natural pathway to reading. This curriculum capitalizes on the children’s love of group music making to further develop their piano skills, as well as singing, composing, improvisation, transposition, and reading music. The parent/caregiver works alongside his or her child both on Zoom and in the home environment. New songs and material will be presented weekly, so regular attendance is essential. Children are required to successfully complete each level of Music at the Piano in order to advance.
Year two of this sequential curriculum will present advancing repertoire as children build on their year one piano foundation. Proper technique and music literacy remain at the forefront as our pianists continue to develop their musicianship. South Florida Music strives to provide a variety of both individual and group performance opportunities each year, including local recitals/concerts, National Guild exams, and for year 2 children, an option to join our annual Disney Performance group! Please note that availability of all performance opportunities is based on local health and safety requirements.
Musical Goals: Play a melodic instrument (piano); Further ensemble skills; Read, write and sing advanced musical notation; Demonstrate a steady beat through the playing of melodies and harmonies individually and in an ensemble; Develop concepts of form, dynamics, tempi, articulation and timbre; Develop the ability to memorize mastered songs and perform them individually and/or in a group performance; Demonstrate the ability to transpose melodies learned to other musical positions; Further develop home practice skills
