Why Choose South Florida Music?

South Florida Music uses the internationally renowned Musikgarten curriculum, specially designed to provide age appropriate musical and developmental activities. All teachers are individually certified and have trained under master teachers in the field of early childhood music education. Their knowledge and experience base will ensure that you and your child have the highest quality educational experience, while enjoying time together in a stress free, playful environment. Our classes are limited to 12 students per section (10 in our keyboard classes) to maintain an excellent student to teacher ratio. Throughout all levels of our program, a parent or caregiver attends class with the child, making South Florida Music truly a family endeavor.

Many researchers have identified the first years of life as the time in which an individual learns at the most rapid rate. Exposure to developmentally appropriate music education in this time period may have the greatest impact on future musical achievement, by stimulating neurological development and training the young mind how to discriminate sounds and organize musical thoughts. While babies, toddlers, and young children are not able to express music in the same manner as an adult, they are absorbing information and creating a framework for more advanced learning as they grow. In addition, music serves as a vehicle through which developmental and cognitive goals can be reached in an enjoyable, learning through play setting. Finally, the child will develop closer bonds with his or her parent/caregiver, while beginning a lifelong journey of musical appreciation that will hopefully lead to further study.

  • Music for Babies

    Birth to 15 months

Play musically with your baby in a non-competitive, non-stressful environment through bouncing and rocking songs, wiggle and peek-a-boo games, dancing, moving, and singing. Music play activities are designed to increase your child's curiosity about music, to develop listening skills, a sense of beat, and to establish a foundation for singing and musical thought.

  • Music for Toddlers in English and Bilingual

From 15 months until the 3rd birthday

Participate and build a strong musical bond with your toddler through singing, chanting, moving, dancing, listening, and playing simple instruments. A mix of stationary and mobile activities will occur, making this level the best choice for children once they begin to walk independently. These activities bridge the natural connection between music and movement, while your child's musical aptitude, listening abilities, and overall potential are enhanced and further developed.

  • Musical Cycle of Seasons

For children 3 years of age

Celebrate your child's love of nature and growing independence through activities which focus on the seasons of the year. Classes are designed to build attention and self-expression and include singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, creative movement and storytelling. While many of the activities appear similar to those in Music for Toddlers, children are encouraged to work more independently from their parents/caregivers. Furthermore, this level begins the foundation of musical literacy by applying musical language to simple rhythmic and tonal patterns.

We currently offer classes at a variety of locations in the greater Miami area. Visit our "Locations" page for addresses and class offerings at each site.
With the exception of our bilingual "Tu Y Yo" toddler classes, all other classes utilize the Musikgarten curriculum, an international curriculum specially designed to be age and developmentally appropriate for children from birth through the age of 8. For more information, visit www.musikgarten.org.

Our curriculum offers developmentally appropriate activities for each age group, and therefore, we ask the you register each child in the appropriate level for his or her age.
While we do not offer classes solely in Spanish, we do offer a bilingual curriculum for toddlers entitled "Tu Y Yo Music." Please visit our classes page for additional information on this offering.
No, at the current time South Florida Music offers general music classes with glockenspiel in our 4-5 year old classes and piano starting at age 6.
While each child is unique, we believe children need readiness in many areas in order to make their piano experience successful. Motor skills, reading skills, ability to focus, symbolic thought, knowledge of right hand and left hand, etc are all necessary to meet both the playing and music literacy goals of our curriculum. As a general rule, we have found the age of 6 to be the appropriate time to begin this experience, though exceptions may be made upon approval of the instructor.
Yes, a parent or other adult caregiver must attend and stay in class with the registered child. Families are an integral part of our program!
